I think I posted this in the wrong newsgroup, so here it
is again with apologies for any double posting.
For several months I have been unable to change user
accounts on my home computer running XP home. The user
accounts button in Control Panel is completely non-
responsive.
I think the problem started when I had a new drive
installed and forgot to give the store a password for an
admin. account - they tried to find a way in, with no
success. They deny anything they did would cause this
problem.
I have upgraded to the new service pack, but this makes
no difference - other than it now looks like my kids
accounts have full administrative privileges. I am unable
to change accounts, passwords, pictures, privileges and
so on.
I am not part of a network, have only one computer at
home.
Any ideas what is going on? Seems some switch must have
been thrown, but which one???
Al
