I posted a reply to the thread for the above subject but
have not received a response to my problem so I am posting
a new message in hopes that it will catch someone's
attention! I am stuck with a dead drive until I can
either solve the problem below or reload WXP WITHOUT
wiping out software and data files. Please see my query
below.

Hello, Hutch,

Read your response to jeremy with interest - I have the
same problem. I am trying to repair an "NTLDR is missing"
problem by getting to the Recovery Console but cannot get
past the admin password screen. MS says "if you cannot
boot the computer and need to use the Repair Console" you
can use their workaround, available in the article:

to get past the admin password glitch. So how do I
download and apply the workaround from ms if I can't get
into my system in the first place? Do I burn the fix to a
CD and try to boot from that CD? (Currently, pressing the
power button takes me to a black screen and the "NTDLR is
missing" message while Power button, F12, etc. takes me to
the option to choose Recovery but I can't get past the
password to get in to repair/replace the damaged/missing
file).

And if you can help me with that, what then of how I lost
the said "NTLDR"?
