The "seems-like-read only" is a very confusing attempt at a "tristate
checkbox" If there is a check mark and the box is grayed out, the folder
itself is not read-only, but files within might be. This is likely what
you're seeing, Bernd.
If you're trying to decrypt through the UI (not commandline "cipher.exe"),
files and folders should decrypt whether they're marked read-only or not.
The shell will flip the r/o attribute off, decrypt the files and folders,
then reapply the r/o attribute to the files/folders that had it before the
decrypt.

It gets worse from here . . .
If the system crashes and reboots whenever you try to decrypt, I'd really
like to know if the encrypted files are system files. If so, delete them
and replace them.
If they are only .xls files, it sounds like a serious problem with Excel/EFS
interop. It would be useful to let everyone know if you can decrypt an
individual .xls file. If you can't, it would be good to know what error
message you get.

You might want to repost with this information and put EFS in the subject
line to make sure that the EFS gurus all see it.
