Hi. I just installed warcraft 3 on my new computer and had
to get a patch with it from a site. I think I might have
downloaded a virus from the site, and now my computer
keeps rebooting over and over. I can't stop it with
anything. I try boot disks, all the safe modes, and
everything. I have Windows XP and need help desperately..
Does anyone know what's wrong?
Some more information-
- the reboot happens right after the loading window xp
screen
- a blue screen (of death) pops up and instantly the
system reboots - i read a little bit of it, says something
about a "memory dump" ?? if that helps any..
- i have got into windows once, but then it spontaneously
went to a screen that said it has to reboot to prevent
windows or the computer from being damaged... and then it
says to help from preventing this from happening i have to
remove all anti-virus and do something to my hard drive..
like chdsk /f or something..
And also it said maybe defrag it or something along those
lines.
-next thing is why i believe it may be a virus.. i think
it is because it tells me to remove all the anti-virus
software from my computer, which i dont think I have any
at the moment, but trying to get one on it and running to
hopefully end this...
if it isn't a virus then i am screwed..... Oh yeah, also
my friend had this happen to his computer about a week
ago, and he had played war craft 3 for a month. He had to
replace his hard drive because of this. I really don't
have the time nor money to replace my hard drive, since my
funds are already low from buying a new computer. I am
guessing that the virus (?) came from the new patch that
we had to install from a site that we came upon. I am
sure other people are getting the same problem then.
- Sorry for typing so much, i am just trying to elaborate
on what is going on with my other computer. I am
currently on another computer that is safe from this
treacherous problem (hopefully).
