Go to microsoft.com/security and find the IIS checklist
and guide info. IIS 5.1 on XP Pro is not much different
from large-scale server IIS 5.0 as far as how to use it,
except that it is limited to one website. Install the IIS
LockDown download.
Use HfNetChk or MBSA to determine service updates
needed for IIS to be secure and get the stuff applied.
For a personal development server, consider making it
not anonymous but rather restricted access. This in
itself makes IIS fairly resistant and gives you some
time-cushion so you do not have to worry too much
about small time-lags between security updates for IIS
being released and being applied to your system.
Open a browser and navigate to
http://localhost/iishelp
and do some reading
