You need to take ownership of the orphaned folder. Read about how to do this for your version of XP in Help and Support Center. Basically, you right-click the folder and select the "Sharing and Security" tab and go to the owner tab. If you don't see the sharing and security tab, you open Folder Options and disable simple file sharing way down at the bottom of the options list.
