not sure what you meant by

Turn simplified file sharing off and you will be
able to share drive roots. This simplified sharing
is a "whole machine" setting, not a per drive setting.

Pro.  File sharing is turned on for the drive.  Yes, I can share individual
files on the root of the drive, but not within subfolders on the drive.
That's the problem.  How do I share the subfolders too without setting the
share property on every single one?
