Since your profiles move with you I am assuming that all
your computer will all be on the same domain or
workgroup. You can check this by right clicking on
network neighborhood and look under the identification
tab. They should all have the same workgroup name (ie.
WORKGROUP, or district001).
HINT: I would also check to make sure the computer names
are standardized. It makes finding computers on the
domain a lot easier. A good name would be ws001rm100.
Here the name stands for "WS" = workstation, "001" =
district#,"rm" = room, and "100" = room#.
Also under the General tab make sure client for windows
network is there and File and Print Sharing is also
there. If File and Print Sharing is not there click on
add ->services -> Microsoft -> File and Print Sharing.
After you have verified that they are all on the same
workgroup/domain and you are satisfied with the computer
names you are able to start sharing.
Here are two options depending if you have a windows NT
domain or windows Workgroup.
This will work if you have Windows NT domain configured
with working domain controller.
Assuming you want to share root of C.
Double click on my computer
Right click on C drive
Click on the share tab
Click on share.
XP machines are similar to this but have an additional
warning screen you need to click.
That's it. The domain you logged onto will worry about
access rights and everything else.
Now go to another computer.
open up windows explorer
in the address bar type in \\<name_of_computer>
in my example it would be \\ws001rm100
note: this is were name standardization is really
helpful :)
hit enter
if all went well you should now see a c drive icon.
click on that icon and you now have access to the c drive
on ws001rm100.
You have now created a share and accessed it across the
network. Enjoy. Now repeat for rest of the Windows
computers. :(
Hopefully this has helped you and not confused you even
more. For give me if this guide is a little off in some
of the screens. I did this from memory and might have
forgotten the way things are laid out. But it should
serve as a good general guide to go by.
GOOD LUCK!
