Absolutely.

If people are using there machines day in and day out - how do they "forget"
there password - since they usually choose it, it is not like a corporate
has assigned them a 20 character random string of upper and lower case
letters, numbers and special characters.

The lost CD Key issues have certainly increased since it became public
knowledge about SP1 and the blocking of certain Product IDs.

Well - we can only hope that people take the necessary precautions to
prevent both.

Some simple ideas and suggestions.

Prevent "Lost" Password.
--------------------------

Use a memorable password
Create a Password Recovery Disk (see the online help)
Write it down and store in a secure place.
Have more then one administrator account (and do all of the above)
Be a member of a domain (if you have one)
Buy a quality third party Administrator password reset utility (this may
cost up to $300)

Prevent and fix "Lost" CD Product ID Key
-------------------------------------------

If you buy an OEM CD - Don't throw the wrapping away until you affix the
Product ID Sticker to your PC.
Write it down and store in a secure place.
Write it on the inside of the PC case in permanent marker ink.
If you are buying a retail copy - Activate and Register it - then if you do
loose your Product Key you can call Microsoft Customer Service 800-426-9400
in USA or Canada.
OR see
http://www.microsoft.com/support/contact_us/
If you loose you OEM key - contact the OEM - Microsoft do not provide
support for OEM products.

Just some starting points.
