This isn't something that everyone sees.

So--unless I'd do exactly what lan suggests--check that the firewall is
activated (control panel, network connections, right-click the Internet
connection and choose properties, Advanced tab, checkbox in top panel)

And, go here:

and download ad-aware and run it, and consider deleting the items it finds.
