Hi all..
I am a relatively new user of windows xp in an
educational environment, as all but one of our
workstations are mac OS9 based.
I have a staff login and a student login on the windows
XP pro (educational) machine, and there is no
password on the student login, only on the staff login.
However, both logins were password protected when I
came in to work today. The staff pass was also
changed, so I could not access winXP through this
route. I ctrl-alt-del'd and tried entering as administrator,
and this too did not work.
After 'interrogation', it seems that none of the staff
changed the passwords so I can only assume it was
the fault of a malicious student. The staff are very
careful with passwords, so perhaps this was done
with a keystroke recorder or something, i'm not sure.
A) Could this have been a system error?
B) Is there any 'backdoor' into the system?
C) I am now re-installing winXP which feels a little
drastic. Whilst I set-up, is there any way to set up a
'backdoor' or any other method of protection for myself
to prevent this from happening?
I know this is probably basic system admin stuff, but
would appreciate any help at this was a little
infuriating.
Many thanks - matt
