password logon

I installed XPpro for a friend around 2 months ago, when
I did I turned off the password manager I thought. She's
now getting a logon box saying she needs too change her
password. I don't even remember giving her a password,
I've entered everything imaginable I can think of. Any
ideas short of reformatting? And if I do have too
reformat any ideas how too save her old email? please
anyone with any knowledge would really be apprectiated.
