I just want to reinforce Mike's comments.
This is bad advice to follow--whatever sense of security it engenders is a
false one.
Yes, this works, for a particular class (or perhaps even just one example)
of exploits. It certainly does not work for many others, and is hardly
worth the time to read it. Be ESPECIALLY careful of mail from friends and
associates containing attachments.
