Whether you consider it "patronizing" or not, there has to be some way
to get through to at least some of these people who go around infecting
other people and mucking up the internet with tons of unnecessary
traffic, even after all the news stories and warnings. Apparently
hearing that millions of people are infected time & again isn't enough
for some people to do the right thing. And getting through to them how
IMPORTANT anti-virus protection is, is *helping* them as well as helping
their friends that they otherwise infect, the user community, etc.
FWIWW, I've never had a virus infection, if that's what you're implying
... nor have any of my clients. Ever. And I've been in business for
over 10 years, and been doing computers for over 20 years, so there was
plenty of time & a range of situations where it could've happened, if I
had not been careful & advised my clients similarly.
Of course, my clients understand that my nagging about security issues
is for their own good; you apparently think there is something
malicious in it. You're reading that into it; I'm just trying to get
through to people who have ignored news stories, advisories, and common
sense.

P.S. I don't have a "staff canteen" although I do have a nice
coffeemaker!
