Am I able to recover file replaced by a newer version (same
filename/extention) under WindowsXP?
Any file, not just "protected" system. I heard such functionality to be
added as early as in Win95 many years ago, but I don't see it. Recovering
deleted items is easy either from RecycleBin or using third-party Undelete
if RecycleBin was also emptied (which is foolish heheh...), but how do you
extract that precious document.txt replaced by the like-named document.txt??
On my former college UNIX workstations, replaced files are NEVER physically
deleted but rather fillename automatically appends "%" at the end and new
(same) filename is created. Repeated overwrite will add %% to original, %
to second one, and create yet another new (same) filename; and so on...
Only if you delete the appended ones old version will cease to exist - heh,
you can still recover from RecycleBin! Is there anything like recovering
replaced filenames going to be offered with Windows??
