Hello Everybody,
I have just got Windows XP Pro and need a little help with some questions.
I want to have two users on my account and have looked around for diffrent
descriptions on the net.
I have set the computer up so that I am the administrator and I want to set
up a 2nd user now the first question is I know what Limited and Admin users
are allowed to do but what is a poweruser able to do and not do ?
When I set up a 2nd user as an admin at the moment, everything is ok and I
can
have diffrent passwords for both to logon. But there is a folder on my D
drive that I
want to keep private and I dont want to move it over to C and place in my
documents.
If you have simple file sharing active the "Make this folder private" button
is greyed
out so you can not make it private.
If you have simple file sharing unchecked you have a larger menu that has
users and
groups. Which I thought would have three options one for the Administrator,
one for
my username and one for other user but instead has the following :
CREATIVE OWNER ?
SYSTEM ?
USERS ?
S-1-5-21-Loads of numbers ?
I have three of these lines with numbers and when I click on advanced I get
a load of other
groups ? Can I delete all of these groups and users or do i need to keep
them ?
My name is there but the other user name isnt ? So I cannot select that user
to deny
them permission to open the folder ?
Does anyone know of a good website where you can read up for newbies on how
to use users and
groups and set policies ?
I heard you can use cacls but when I go into it to dent a folder for a user
it says type the following
cacls c:\foldername /D Username
but when I type in the username of the 2nd user it doesnt accept the name ?
How do you go about
setting up groups and putting users into them which I presume you have to do
?
Also can someone remind me on how to set a password for the default Admin so
when you go for F8
you cannot start as an admin without a password.
Any help or links with these problems is most appreciated
Thanks
