I had the same problem to this and one of the MVP's sorted it out - it is a
MS problem. The problem came up on my sisters pc again yesterday and i
managed to sort it.

Anyways, John, do this...and do it this way....if it works, let me know - it
should...

Under Administrator account, remove messenger: Start>Run> type:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Messenger will be uninstalled. Then you need to download windows messenger
4.5 and install it (found at:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/windowsmessenger/install/4.5/wxp/en-u
s/mmssetup.exe). Reboot.

After rebooting, install windows messenger 4.6.00.76. Reboot.

Remember you should still be in Administrator account. After rebooting now
download and install windows messenger 4.6.00.78 - the latest one.

Reboot.

You shouldnt have a problem now. Make sure you install the MSN add-ins
after this if you want it to work properly.
