Actually, the problem here, I finally determined, was cased by a combination
of my making an asumption based on the way the WindowsXP setup (a fresh, new
installation on a new hard drive.) proceeded and XP not doing exactly what
it seemed to be doing. The reason I couldn't access printers or anything
really besides the internet is truly amazing. During XP installation, it
took me through the Network Setup process. I distinctly recall setting it up
for workgroups and entering the Workgroup Name that I've been using on my
LAN for several years. That proceeded without an observable hitch. However,
while trying to get printers setup today, I finally discovered that XP
apparently ignored the Workgroup Name that I entered. Instead, I found
Microsoft's default Workgroup Name "MSHOME". :-| Imagine my amazement!
After correcting the Workgroup Name on the XP maching it was just a matter
of identifying shares for devices & files as well as setting permissions.
