Re: Windows Security Center window will not pop up

I found that the last major security update from Microsoft would not install. Working with Vista
support, we found two catalog files that were corrupted.

1) The .cat files were corrupted by Norton.

2) The lack of the Vista Security Center means that Norton is managing it's *own* Security Center.
So, if you want to use the Vista one you'll have to uninstall Norton.

To avoid future corruption issues suggest you configure Norton *not* to scan nor monitor .cat and .manifest files in WINDOWS\winsxs.

EX: use the files' locations and the wildcard [*] to have .cat and ..manifest files not scanned nor 'realtime' montitored

WINDOWS\winsxs\*.cat
WINDOWS\winsxs\*.manifest

I had to re-install Vista from the Dell furnished disk. Microsoft Updates then downloaded and installed....all 206 Mb of them.
However, now the security center will not come up. The process IS running (Task Manager shows...Windows Services shows).
I have a warning icon on the taskbar as I am not using Windows Firewall, but Norton.
Before, I could have the Security Center ignore the fact that Windows Firewall was not running...but can NOT now. No window pops up for selections.

I CAN turn on/off Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. They are working.

Microsoft Vista Support is at a loss...
