Thank you for your suggestions, unfortunately, that's the problem, I CAN'T
find McAfee under Programs. Is it part of "Windows Defender?"
No.
When I check my
"Security Status" on the Control Panel, it tells me that McAfee VirusScan is
out-of-date, but that it's turned on. Yet I cannot find anything relating to
McAfee under Programs, no option on the Control Panel to turn it off, or
anything having to do w/ another anti-virus program in general...any ideas?
I'm at a loss!
Did you look under All Programs (in the Start-orb area)? If it's
there, does it have an uninstall option?
If it's not there, try this:
Using Explorer, open Computer, then your C drive, then Program Files.
Look through that group for anything McAfee.
What do you find?

Hi,
I am attempting to load AVG onto my computer, but every time I do, it tells
me I'm already running an anti-virus program, and I know it's not a good idea
to run two at the same time. I previously had the CA Anti-Virus Suite, but
I've uninstalled that program successfully. The only other thing I can think
of is the McAfee VirusScan which came with Vista, but I assume was just a
free trial and is now out-of-date.
It's still running... it just won't update virus definitions.
How do I find out what the computer thinks
I'm still running? And if it is this McAfee trial, how do I get rid of it? I
don't see that option anywhere. I'm really not that computer savvy, so any
help would be much appreciated.
Control Panel (classic view) - Programs and Features
Find it, and uninstall it.
