Hello James,
You can run WSUS also as workgroup server and point only the clients to the
server for downloading. We do it that way. All WSUS policies for the machines
comes with separate GPO in the domain.

Hello,
I intend to setup a WSUS infrastructure where there is one central
WSUS server where I approve updates and several other WSUS servers at
other locations that synchronize with this central WSUS server...
basically central administration
Is active directory required to do this with WSUS? I'm refering to
using latest version of WSUS on servers that are all running server
2008
