Hello Michael,
You can use vmware converter for this and run it in vmware server, both free:
http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/
http://www.vmware.com/products/server/
We did it on this way with two old NT4 machines, a PDC and member and works fine.

I have a windows 2000 server that is currently running on a PE1650. I
want to remove the server completely from my network but I do need the
information that is stored on this machine. IS it possible to image
this machine and install it on a virtual network and have client
connect to it?
Any information will be appreciated
.
