Workstations showing logon failures by users can still logon?

I have started seeing a increasing number of workstations (W95 Prof +SP2
and all updates) showing event log entries (on the WKS) of logon
failures each time a users logs on to the workstations. The server shows
no errors and they can access all shares as permitted by their Group
membership.
I've checked DNS and time and all updates, server (Win 2003 Std r2) is
working fine - if I disjoin the computer from the domain and rejoin it
(after deleting the computer account) the problem goes away for weeks or
never returns.
Anyone seeing this anywhere else - all of these PC's have been in
operation with this network for over 2 years.
Network is clean, no malware at all, all protected by dual firewall
appliances....
