I currently have windows 2003 sp1 and when I want to run a exe from the
desktop I get this message.
"windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not
have the appropriate persion to access the item"
Can someone help me with this.
Are you logged on to the 2003 system directly, or are you attempting to
access an executable file located on that system from another workstation?
Are you logged on with a domain account? Is it an adminstrator account or a
regular user account?
Where is the executable located that you are trying to run?
If you right-click on the file and select properties, do you see a security
tab? If so are you in any of the groups noted as having access either
granted or denied?
try clicking the advanced button, then the effective permissions tab, the
select button, and enter the name of your account. This should show you what
your access is to the file. If you cannot even get this far, then it would
appear that your account does not have sufficient access.
If that is the case, then the only one that can help you would be an
administrator on your system.
