Have you tried to use methods 1 or 2 of the KB you referenced?
As the new setting will be applied by the system, if anything can
do it, it seems that would get it done.

I was trying to give rights to another security group on the server to
restart a service. While trying to do this I came by this article.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288129 . This article explained how to do
this. So being conservative I only granted the permission to one group to
stop/start/restart the service. Now when I came in today no one has
permissions to the service to do anything to it. Is there a way to use the
administrator account and retake ownership of the service as you would in
files?
