Roger,

"Unchecking" F&P on one (or more) NIC(s) will disable F&P (and dependants)
but will not uninstall Server service.

Yes, I knew.

On the other hand UNINSTALLING F&P (you select it and click "Uninstall")
does indeed remove Server and Workstation services.

But thanks for that info, which I, for some reason, had never
observed (perhaps I do not have the luxury, needing to thread
backup access through the eye of an IPsec needle most everywhere).

This is one of first security measures I use on many of my servers (in
addition to NetBIOS device removal and other items that render these
systems
vulnerable to many attacks).

Lucky you are !
Roger

Thanks,

Gregg M. B.

Hi Will

I believe that RPC installs when MS Networking Client is named
as a protocol for an interface (whether checked, ie.whether bound,
to the interface or not).

You speak of uninstalling F&P service, and also of uninstalling
Server service, but I am again wondering whether you mean
uninstall, or just unchecking (i.e. not binding) in the interface
properties. Obviously if Server service is gone then all of the
dependents are crippled (which, IIRC includes browser, which
seems odd at first until one thinks into how browser operates).

If a member server has File and Print Sharing disabled, what are the
implications of uninstalling File and Print Sharing? Is that going to
uninstall the Server service, and take RPC with it? What are my
risks
in
uninstalling File and Print Sharing?
