Hi Olaf,

Thanks for you comments. I agree with a lot of what you had written
but believe that you have missed the point of my message. I
completely agree that these forums should not be used to advertise
any product in any way and I also agree that password security is a
very big issue. I have mentioned Transparent Screen Lock not to
advertise the product but to open a discussion about it. As far as I
know (from all the tests I have run personally) the product does not
have any backdoors. As system administrators and members of the
Windows community it is our responsibility to look for these things
and report any malware when we see it. If anyone finds a backdoor in
this program it should be reported to the virus companies so they can
add it to their definitions and reduce any harm it may cause to
others. If anyone has had any problems of any sort it should be
discussed here. If the bug is not malicious it should be reported to
the company producing the program.

This program is not free, they give you a free demo but after a
certain amount of time you have to actually pay for it. If I find
this program to be malicious in any way I will bring this up to our
legal department and may sure they rip those guys apart! As a
responsible member of the community I do everything I can to make
sure this kind of stuff does not go on.

Personally, I also avoid using programs that prompt the user for
accounts and passwords but in some cases it is necessary. In this
case, I was asked for a way of securing machines running demos. We
needed a way to allow only select users from interrupting the demo
and we needed this information to be logged (i.e. when it was
interrupted and by who). I had great difficulty finding such a
solution. Transparent Screen Lock seemed to solve the problem. If
you have a better solution I invite you to tell us all what it is.
That is why this message was posted here.

Steve
