Thanks to both posters above. Yes, there is a local policy under
Computer Configuration > User Configuration > Administrative Templates
> Windows Components > Windows Explorer.
This policy contains a limited drop down menu that WON'T let me hide
the E drive. Apparently it WILL let me hide the D drive I could use
disk management to change the lettering. Unfortunately we have a long
history of exposing the D drive. We will confuse our users and our
documentation if E changes to D in the next rollout. I'm trying to
avoid that.
Yes, I've run Gpresult.exe -v > myfile.txt and viewed the results.
Since it's the same as viewing Gpedit.msc directly I haven't picked up
new information.
Thanks for clarifying that regedit and regedit32 are not the only ways
to add or remove registry keys. That's exactly the kind of insight
I'm looking for in this thread. Yes a script could do it. What
script? Yes an app could do it. What app? We've got over 20
identical computers and the key gets dropped almost randomly. If I
had examples of scripts or apps I'd be ahead of the game. I'd know
what to look for.
Since this group (the windows.server.security group) attracts experts
in ACL I'd better explain the domain and the user accounts so you can
take it step by step. The domain is a Windows Server 2000 domain.
Domain membership is primarily for the benefit of the computer, not
the user. The relevant users are local. All local computer
interaction is done with a local user account.
So, I'm trying to hide a partition from my local users with nodrives
(set under HKEY Current User). The key disappears for unknown
reasons. This key never disappeared before we joined the machines to
the domain. That should spark some responses.
Any advice with RSoP?
