We are in the process of setting up a new small business. To begin with it
is going to be VERY small - only two computers. There will probably be a
third added within 6 months or so.
There is an application that we intend to use that needs to work off of a
server with its clients. What is the best server software and setup to start
with? We
don't want to spend a great deal of money - from the research I've done, one
of the cheaper Dell PowerEdge servers is going to cost around $2200 with
tape drive backup.
Is that the best way to go? Do we need Windows NT 2000 PLUS Small Business
Server, or should we just get Windows NT 2000? We plan on allowing our
webhost to take care of webhosting and email, so we don't need to run a
server with mail, etc. We're trying to start as inexpensively as possible on
a shoestring budget. All the clients will do is access the server for access
to the software.
Obviously I am needing a crash course in networking a small business. Can
anyone out there help me? I would sure appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Barry
