Private key store

I just want to clarify one item about Windows Certificate Services: are
copies of users' private keys stored in Certificate Services store or
private key is stored only in user MY store after certificate was requested
and installed? I want to know will be I able to restore lost users
private/public keys pair somehow or they want to backup them theirself.
