Hello Goody2,
If i understand you right, the PC was at a domain at your working place and now the domain is not longer available. SO just make your PC member of a workgroup. Then you will not prompted to login to a domain.
If you will use the two laptops together, put both of them in the same workgroup, create the same useraccount and password on both laptops and sharing between them should work.
Best regards

I am running w2000 on my laptop. It was part of a network at my
workplace. The network has been shut down. I am still being prompted
by the computer to login when I am at home.
I tried to set up a network at home between my two laptops. I
re-booted and I was denied access after typing in my password. Is
there anyway I can get around the log in screen to get to the desktop
and delete the network set up by my workplace? Thank you
.
