will Autoupdate retroactively update?

I,like others here, am unable to pull my defenses down enough to update manually from M$oft so I now allow auto-update and then select which to install after auto downloads.

CAn I assume that all cumulative security patches will be detected and downloaded....Or is it just updated from the present forward?
