I would try first doing selective startup with services disabled and if that
does not work try disabling startup items. Once you find what category it is
in you need to try and disable a couple of selections at a time until you
narrow it down to the offending service/process. Most likely it is not a
Microsoft service or startup process with the possible exception of the
ipsec service or Windows Firewall service if you are not running SP2..

starting as it is a mode used for troubleshooting. Safe Mode with

will allow networking to function. So if you boot into Safe Mode with
networking and everything works fine then it is a startup service or

and error method. The router could be the problem if it is blocking

Ok..Got DAF, found the registry entry, and removed it. Restarted
the
system,
and was able to turn off the firewall. Problem 1 solved.

Unfortunately, this didn't solve problem number 2. I still can't
get a
connection with certain applications. I can browse the web fine,
and
download files fine. I can't sign into AIM 6.0, it acts as though
there
is
no connection. Same when I try to do an install download such as
morpheus,
where the installer application itself has to connect to a server

installation files, again acts as there's no connection. I'm
still
stumped..

Ok, so i'm pretty well educated in computers, and
building
them.

simple problem I have never run across before. A few
programs
won't
connect
to the web, morpheus and AIM 6.0, and I believe it's

firewall. When I have attempted to disable windows
firewall

problem, the check box for disable is greyed out, and
there is

bar
at

top of the page that says "For your security, some

group policy" I can't figure out how to turn this thing
