Sorry for the lack of grammar. The machine did not have a firewall
enabled but is behind a firewalled router. It is up to date on service

Well, you may be better off than it sounded based on what
was not said in first post.
I cannot tell you how to "reset the admin rights" because
I do not really know what happened to your system.
It could be as simple as someone having walked by and
defined a new account and altered how the login is presented.
The system could of course be more heavily screwed with.
If you cannot get anyone that could have had physical access
to the system to pony up to having done something, then you
probably have to assume it was twiddled with via the network.
If it is likely clean, which of course is hard to tell, then you
could just google for windows password reset and use one
of the tools available to reset the admin account password.
But, that only establishes login capability, not reset of machine
to known valid state.
