Hi,

Thank you for your advice. It has worked!

My MDAC was well screwed but once I got the latest version it all fell into
place. No more repeat installs of KB832483 I am happy to say!

Thanks once again,

Best regards,

Zephie

If you visit the MS data website
www.microsoft.com/data
and drill in a little you will find
1) link for an MDAC version checker
2) links for the latest/greatest MDAC version available
for your OS
I would suggest that you get these, manually update the
system to the latest MDAC release, check that post-install
the checker is seeing things as consistent (it would be very
rare if it does not just after install of an upgrade), and then
finally visit Microsoft Update to see if it needs to update
the latest-greatest that was just installed

Please can someone help?

I am on Windows 2000 SP4 Ver 5.0 with automatic updates enabled. My system
keeps attempting (and failing) to install Security Component KB832483.

I have checked the logs on the Microsoft site and this must have been done
over 60 + times. It keeps failing and the system keeps trying. According
to
the Microsoft site it is sucessful yet the next update though is this same
one again.

How can I stop this and move on to the next update?

Below are the last four entries in the dahotfix.log file:

[15:46:00]: An error occurred while setup was trying to verify the version
of Microsoft Data Access Components current installed on the machine.
Either the version currently installed does not match the version of this
hotfix package, or setup was unable to determine the version currently
installed.
[15:46:00]: The action (NULL!CheckMDACVersionExact) returned FALSE.
Either all of the PreInstallActions for this package returned FALSE, or
there was a fatal error while executing an action.
The package will not be installed. This error will not halt the setup
process.
[15:46:00]: Destroying Job Queues.
[15:46:00]: Checking state of setup at end of installation.
Setup was NOT successful.
[15:46:00]: Shutting down Hotfix Installer.
