Thanks.

Now I have this problem: Windows keeps telling me that there is one security update ready to install:
"Security Update for Microsoft Data Access Components (KB832483)"
When I click on the update icon in the task bar and click to install it, I get the message that the update was installed successfully. However, a couple of minutes later, the same update message pops up again in the task bar.

I recommend going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to check for updates. This will usually either install the update and get rid of the problem, or give you more verbose information as to whether the update failed to install, and why.
This doesn't help.

If that fails, I would try manually downloading the patch .EXE file and running that, for the same reasons as above. You might do that first.
I only found the 64 Bit version of KB832483 and can't install it. If I download the 32 Bit version, I get the message that a newer version is already installed.

If none of this helps, you can also run the EVENTVWR command [e.g. by clicking Start, Run] to look for errors in the Windows System or Application Event Logs,
Nothing related to my problem here - everything appeared to be fine.

and check out the %windir%\windowsupdate.log file.
I can find this error message after attempting to install the update:
"WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId = {C735DBB1-06B4-49F2-815F-97976B4B86A4}.100, error = 0x80041017"

or, at another time:
"WARNING: Update Service: Failed to update backup store"

How do I go ahead from here?
Thanks,
Martin
