Unable to display security information when viewing folder security tab

When trying to view the security on some folders, accounts with admin rights
will get the message "Unable to display security information." This can
happen over WAN connections, from Charlotte to Atlanta for instance but will
be fine from LA or Miami on the same folder. It will always display
correctly on a LAN connection or when logged on to the server locally.

If I remove a number of users or groups or nest groups in order to subtract
from the number of objects in the security tab, the groups and users will
then be listed as normal. There is no magic number either, sometimes as few
as 8 groups/users will cause this. Drop it to 7 objects then all is OK.

I've searched Google and the KB, closest I could find was KB240071 which
doesn't apply as the servers in question are WIN2K SP4. I have been unable
to duplicate the problem on WIN2K3 boxes.
