a noob encryption ?

Hello everyone, I am new to this and wanted to give you guys a scenario

that maybe someone could suggest a good method of encryption.

I have many txt files that need a level of security, and these files
exist on win 2k/2k3 servers. Then these files are pulled off the
network by dos machines.

What is a good way to keep these files encrypted on the server and then

decrypted when they get to the dos machines. These files are not
stored locally on the dos machines.

I have never dealt with encryption before, any answers would be greatly

appreciated.

TIA

.
