Re: users can't change password

I don't know of a registry setting but run the command net user username
[with that actual user name of course] to make sure it shows yes for user
may change password. Is this happening to multiple user accounts? There can
be a few reasons why a user can not change a password in a domain but that
is the only reason I can think of for a workstation. It might help to enable
auditing of account management in Local Security Policy on that computer and
then check the security log for any events that may be recorded at the time
the password attempt is made to see if anything helpful is found. Another
thing to try is to make sure you do not give the user account a blank
password when you create it and that the user is entering a new password
that meets any password requirements for the operating system though that
does not seem to be what your error message indicates. --- Steve

The checkbox for user can not change password isn't selected. Could it
be set in the registry somewhere? If so, does anyone know what key it
is?

I have a W2K standalone. I have created a new account that is set up
for the user to change their password when they log on. When the new
user tries to logon it says they have to change their password
(normal). then when they put the new password in a box pops up saying
that they do not have permission to change their password. This
happens even if the new user has full admin rights. This same problem
has actually happened on 4 laptops. Could someone PLEASE help, it's
driving me crazy.
