forgotten log in passwords

is there any the passwords.way to by paa the log in asking
for a passowrd if the password has been lost of forgotten?
I am trying to help a friend get access to his computer, he
forgot what he put in as a password and I can not sign in
as administrator or access anything inside of windows to change
