Hi Jas,
The problem you have described is exactly the same that I am experiencing. We have over 20 machines that have Win2000 Pro on Compaq Desktops, and all of them happen to have the same problem.
This problem came a couple of days after I had removed the virus 'korgo variant' and installed Lsass vulnerability patch.
