Admin Password Problem

I dont have the password to get
past the Win 2000 log on screen for a PC which I purchased
from a school computer lab.

Without this I have been unable to install a modem which
is physically in the system, but dosent's get recognized
when I install communication software such as AOL 9.0 and
when I try to enable/disable under Control Panel.

I've deduced that I need to get past the Admin Password in
order to install this software.

Your assistance will be appreciated
