I don't know but would not recommend it. You could upgrade the current
domain controller to W2003 after first making a full backup in case of
problems or build the W2003 server, dcpromo it and then it will replicate AD
during the dcpromo process form the current W2K domain controller.
Afterwords you could dcpromo the W2K dc if you want to take it off line
making sure that the W2003 dc is also a global catalog server, points to
itself as preferred dns server, and adjust domain clients to point to it as
their dns server possibly by reconfiguring the dhcp scope if dhcp is used.
Also verify that it holds all the fsmo roles that should have transferred
when dcpromo the existing W2K domain controller during decomission
