You need a firewall because you have vulnerable ports exposed to the internet as
demonstrated by those pop ups. You can go to a site such as
http://scan.sygatetech.com/ to do a self scan to see what it reports, but I bet you
get warnings about netbios ports, etc. If your computer does not share files with
other computers, I would also disable file and print sharing in control panel/network
connection/properties. There are may free personal firewalls available. Zone Alarm is
adequate and fairly easy for novice users to configure. See the links below on
