Locked out at login

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude laptop running 2000
pro from a colleague at work i have a cdrom & 3.5" drive
for the docking bay.

It did not ask me for a password on start-up and windows
booted up fine.

When saving programs it was stating the file was owned by
[name] previous owner This was also happening when I was
logging on to web sites, all his cookies and profiles
were being shown and not mine.

So I updated the entry register [I think] with a new user
[me] and gave myself administrator preiviliges and
deleted his.

I logged off

Logged back on and at start up it now asks for a
password, his name is automatically populated in the user
name.

He is absolutely addement he has never set a password, as
he never does - silly I know.

Leaving the password field blank and click OK, give the
following message:
You could not be logged on check caps lock.....

So I tried to log in under the new user created, me -
this gives the following message.
Your account has been disabled, please contact your
system administrator!

QUESTION: is thier anyway i can get around the inital
login. The only other solution is to format c: although
this will present it's own problems as this drive is
partitioned - bummer!
