Dude,

If it's not encrytped, I find if you boot with a linux live-cd such as knoppix or damn small linux you can mount the partition and either put it on a floppy/cd-r, or push it onto the network.

if it is encrypted, your options are limited. If it's really important, don't monkey with it and get yourself some professional assistance.
