ibm thinkpad, win2K professional SP4, can't login after standby

very strange, clean new install, no network, I log in as
Administrator (the only account) when I boot up no
problem, but when reawakening from standby mode, I can't
log in ("username or password unknown"), I have to
poweroff again. Any ideas? Many thanks, Richard
