One method is to have an administrator perform the download initially.
Once downloaded, the user can use the ActiveX controls without issues.
Another option is to change the default ActiveX handling. If you know
the Web site, you can add the Web site to Trusted Web sites or Local
Intranet, and change the ActiveX download settings with Group Policy
(User Configuration/Windows Settings/Internet Explorer
Maintenance/Security)
I would recommend the following settings:
- Download signed ActiveX controls: Enable
- Download unsigned ActiveX controls: Prompt
- Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe: Prompt
- Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins: Enable
- Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting: Enable
I use these settings with the Certificate Services ActiveX controls. If
downloaded first by an Administrator, then this works for normal users.
