Roaming Profiles - old icons reappearing

Any help on this would be appreciated. We have an NT
domain users on windows 2000 machines log in to the
domain and at times they get a desktop with icons that
they deleted weeks ago. I assume this is a roaming
profile issue where the roaming profile and local profile
are not in sync. Does anyone have any suggestions on how
I can fix this problem?
