You said you installed an antivirus program which is great, but be sure that you
actually scanned your whole computer after updating definitions from the publishers
web site and that it scans your email attachments. I also suggest you run something
like SpyBot Search and Destroy and/or AdAware on your computer which target various
malware that is not considered a virus and may not be detected by a virus scan. If
none of that helps, you may need to backup your data, emails, tcp/ip configuration
information, and email/newsgroup configuration information and then format your hard
drive and reinstall everything including service pack and critical updates from
Windows Update after trying to reinstall Internet Explorer first to see it that helps

After getting things in working order, I suggest you read links below on how to make
your web browsing much safer by using IE Web Content zones. A good, but sometimes a
little inconvenient at times strategy is to set security for the internet zone to
high and then place your known safe/trusted sites into the trusted zone where you set
